Serving at First Pres
From people who love to organize to the creative types, if you have time, we have something for you to do! Projects range from cutting out VBS supplies, to organizing weekly lesson materials, to creating bulletin boards. If you have even a couple hours here and there during the year, we’d love your help. Some work can be done at home and other work needs to be organized directly at church.
The Elementary host arrives 15 minutes before Sunday school begins. The host serves two purposes: 1) Warmly welcome children and parents and answer any questions they may have about the morning; 2) Be available in the hallway during the Sunday school hour in order to help make sure all our safety standards are met. Hosts are required to complete a background check every 3 years.
In need of one 4th and 5th Grade Lead Teacher at 9:30am for the 2023-2024 School year.
The lead teacher will read the written lesson ahead of time and be prepared to lead class time (the lesson and materials are provided for you). In addition, a lead teacher warmly welcomes children and follows the Spirit’s lead in class. Ideally, we’d love for teachers to be as consistent as possible during the school year, knowing that children learn best through caring relationships. Teachers are people with a living faith in Jesus Christ. A completed background check is required and training is provided.
In need of two Assistant Teachers (Kindergarten and First Grade) at 9:30am for the 2023-2024 School year.
It’s good if the assistant teacher will be familiar with the main themes and basic movements of the lesson ahead of time, but this person can also simply arrive and be an extra help. Along with the lead teacher, this person warmly welcomes children and communicates God’s welcome and care. Assistant teachers are people with a living faith in Jesus Christ. A completed background check is required and training is provided.

WNL Leaders help out Sept. - Nov. and then Jan. - April from 6:00pm - 7:00pm.
We need 3 additional adults to help with WNL programming for elementary. During this time we expand on our curriculum from Sundays at 11:00 to emphasize what we learned earlier in the week. 15 minutes is filled with a short review of what we learned the Sunday prior, we then hold space for the kids to ask questions, practice reciting the monthly memory verse, share prayer requests and lead prayer. We play a game together to build camaraderie amongst the kids. These roles are more of a guide than a teacher, someone who can relate well to energetic children and their curious questions, and someone who has a living faith in Jesus Christ. Training is provided and a background check is required.
5GA is a program designed to help preteens engage in the church and say "yes" to Jesus with their whole lives. Each 5th grader learns leadership, explores their relationship with the Lord, and begins to identify their importance in the life of the church through service. The leadership team helps to teach, coordinate service, and/or plan events for the 5th Graders. Those on the leadership team are people with a living faith in Jesus Christ. A completed background check is required.
Vacation Bible School is a celebration that kids, parents, and youth alike look forward to all year long, and for good reason! It’s a time to learn in depth about Jesus and have lots of fun doing so. You can use your gifts at VBS in a variety of ways: crew leader (small group leader for children), Bible Adventure teacher, crafts, snacks, providing hospitality to volunteers, set design and more. If you want to help, there’s a spot for you.
During Vacation Bible School in June, the rising 6th graders also meet and participate in serving various mission partners in the community. This is a great way for the rising 6th graders not only to serve but also to form community with each other before entering 6th grade. The leadership team coordinates mission projects ahead of time and engages with kids during the week. Those on the leadership team are people with a living faith in Jesus Christ. A completed background check is required.
