Join us on January 6 for a discussion of Christianity and mental health with Warren Kinghorn and John Swinton.
Dr. Kinghorn is an author and psychiatrist whose work centers on the role of religious communities in caring for persons with mental health problems and on ways in which Christians engage practices of modern health care. Jointly appointed within Duke Divinity School and the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences of Duke University Medical Center, he is co-director of the Theology, Medicine, and Culture Initiative and is a staff psychiatrist at the Durham VA Medical Center.
Dr. Swinton serves as Chair in Divinity and Religious Studies at the University of Aberdeen, UK. He is an ordained minister of the Church of Scotland with a strong commitment to supporting the work of the church. He is a member of Aberdeen Presbytery and secretary of Christ's College where he is responsible for the welfare and education of candidates for the ministry of the Church of Scotland. He has a background in nursing (16 years), ministry and healthcare chaplaincy, working within the field of mental health and latterly within the area of learning disabilities.
