OUR MISSION is for all people, including high school students, to say “yes” to Jesus with their whole  lives.  To that end, we strive to create a welcoming, warm, and safe environment in which students can learn, experience, and share the love of God through Jesus Christ.  In particular, we have developed and work towards specific goals for each age group.  These goals are organized around the 6 core values we hold as an entire church.

High School Goals of Ministry

At 1st Pres, our desire is to equip students to become disciples of Christ. We recognize that high school is a unique time of life where students begin to discover for the first time who they are, and who Christ has uniquely equipped them to become. Here at 1st Presbyterian high school ministry, we try to provide a safe, Christ centered environment, great friendships, and Bible centered teaching to serve students where they are.

Our Goals

As stated above, the mission of First Presbyterian is for all people to say “yes” to Jesus with their whole lives. In order to work toward and to live into that mission, we have developed goals aimed toward that end for each grade level.   These goals describe what we hope, and plan, for children to know, believe, experience, become, and do with their faith as they transition from one age to the next.    The goals are organized around the 6 core values from our mission statement.  They also include a component for parents under the “invest in the next generation” section.

We are a spiritual family on mission to
Encounter Jesus
Experience grace
Grapple with scripture
Serve our neighbors, and
Invest in the future church
…all for the glory of God!

Here are our goals as they intersect with the High School years:

Spiritual Family

In God’s family we grow through relationships with people of all ages.

Christian community helps me to love God, others, and myself.

Encounter Jesus

I am fearfully and wonderfully made in God’s image.  God has a plan and purpose for my life.

I can seek Jesus’ wisdom and guidance as I make decisions for my life.

I understand that Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection makes Christianity the one path to salvation.

Experience Grace

I understand that Christianity is about a relationship with the Triune God, not about following rules.

Even when I make big mistakes, God forgives me and His love for me never changes.

Experiencing grace through Jesus helps me to extend grace to others.

God is at work in my life, and I am a part of His bigger story.

Grapple with Scripture

God helps me to answer hard questions through Scripture and my faith community.

Scripture, through the power of the Holy Spirit, is my guide to making decisions in my life, both big and small.

Serve our Neighbors

I can respond to God’s grace by using my talents to positively impact the world around me.

I will love like Jesus, because everyone I encounter is someone in desperate need of God’s love and acceptance.

Invest in the Future Church

God has called me to be a part of the church’s mission wherever I am.

Parents are encouraged to engage with their students about their life with God, and coach them as they take ownership of their spiritual journey.

What We Do

Our High School Ministry focuses on small groups, and we have several groups for our high school students, divided by gender and grade. Each small group meets in homes every Sunday afternoon from 4-5:30.  For more information on small groups and how you can plug in, email Marissa!

Sunday School meets weekly on during the school year on Sunday mornings at 10 AM on the second floor of the worship center.  Join us as we study God’s Word and learn how to apply it to our lives.

Love.edu is a program designed to help high school students learn more about spiritual practices and how they can make them a part of their lives.  We meet during the school year on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month from 6:15-7:30 in room A-219.

Our ministry participates in a variety of Mission Trips (both internationally and locally) in which we hope our students will grow stronger in their personal relationship with the Lord, as well as learning to practice how to serve and love others.

Other Opportunities: here are some ways you can get MORE involved with the youth at First Pres!

Worship team is a group of students who join together to worship God through song and lead their peers at special events throughout the school year.

Hoops4Him is a church basketball league here in town.  Join a First Pres team and help us glorify God as we play ball!
