First Presbyterian Youth Ministry
Our youth ministry is shaped by the Greatest Commandment. We believe this Commandment is inherently about relationships, that loving God is joined with loving others and loving ourselves. It’s from this verse that we get the 3 components of our ministry: Love God, Love Your Neighbor, Love Yourself.
Love God – It is our desire that we teach students how to love God wholeheartedly, through inviting students into a personal relationship with God through teaching, Bible study, spiritual formation, and corporate worship. We believe that worship is an attitude that can be carried out into all areas of life. Today’s teenagers are longing for transcendence, we believe this desire is met through authentic worship and building a personal relationship with God.
Love Our Neighbor – We believe that authentic faith inspires us to love others. We strive to teach our students how to live out the love of Christ through engaging community in the church, being a light in their areas of influence, and serving the world. In a world of increasing isolation and hopelessness, teenagers need to be shown how to connect with others and bring the love of Christ to those in need.
Love Yourself – We are each created in the image of God. Our desire is that our students grow into that image by recognizing their gifts, gaining a deeper understanding of God’s steadfast love for them, and discovering their unique identity in Christ. Developmentally, the chief task of adolescence is to answer the question “Who am I?” We believe the true answer is found in Christ.
