A favorite scripture verse: Mark 10:45, which says, “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.” I love this verse because it’s the picture of servant leadership, which Jesus Himself modeled in laying down His life for us. Leadership isn’t about being on the top or being in charge. It’s about using your gifts, position, and influence to serve those around you in a sacrificial way to the glory of God. I grew up in midtown Atlanta, Georgia, and I grew up as an urban kid playing sports year-round. Atlanta is known for having the busiest airport in the world (ever gotten stuck there?), the world’s largest hamburger drive-in (the Varsity – awesome fries and onion rings!), and the largest exposed piece of granite in the world (Stone Mountain) Hanging out with my grown children and my grandchildren, playing basketball and tennis or running, and enjoying a dinner with friends are some of my favorite things to do.

Petey grew up in Valley, Alabama–a tiny cotton mill town along the Chattahoochee River. He’s been married for over 11 years to Ashley and has two daughters, Emery & Yeni. They moved to Winston-Salem from Dallas at the end of 2013, where Petey served on staff at Highland Park Presbyterian for 6 years. Petey has been in ministry for over 11 years and has a Bachelor’s from Mississippi State University to go with a Master’s from George Fox Evangelical Seminary, and is currently working on a Doctorate in Contextual Theology at Northern Seminary. He loves coffee, sports, spending time outdoors, especially in the mountains, and is a dedicated and avid runner.
A favorite scripture verse: 2 Corinthians 5: 16-21 – So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so                                              no longer. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and                                            gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ not counting men’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the                                                      message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled                                              to God. God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

I am drawn to the words of the prophet Isaiah, who speaks hope and comfort to a suffering people; to the powerful picture of Jesus as the light and life of the world presented in the Gospel of John; and to Paul’s encouragement to the church in Philippi to follow Christ’s example of humility. I’m from Seattle, WA, and have spent about half my life in California, so I’m a west-coaster through and through. I enjoy spending time with family and friends, playing soccer, running, skiing, being in the mountains, reading poetry, playing music, and reading a good book when I make the time for it!

Favorite Scripture: “A favorite scripture verse: Psalm 105:4 – “Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his face evermore.” I am from Winston-Salem, North Carolina, a city that began with a group of Moravian settlers and is now known for the arts, education, and innovation. I am married to my high school sweetheart, Bekah, and we have two young children. Without doubt, I take the most pleasure in being with my family. I also enjoy running, playing almost any sport, the combination of good food and good friends, reading theology and philosophy, and having a good conversation over coffee.

I’m from Wilmington, NC. I’d say it is most famous for being the place where Michael Jordan and Jason Roy grew up. Also, it happens to be a lovely tourist attraction with a beautiful and historic downtown, Carolina and Wrightsville Beaches, and the NC Aquarium at Fort Fisher. I’d also go out on a limb to say that it’s a great place for local restaurants, and I’d encourage any foodies (like myself) to visit! My favorite scripture is Deuteronomy 31:6, and my favorite translation of this verse is from the NLT, which reads: “So be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid and do not panic before them. For the Lord your God will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you.” This speaks to the heart of what I love about Jesus and what I need to know in my daily life– no matter what others do, say, or think about me, God will always be there, and he’ll never abandon me. What comfort! I have a lot of favorite places: the beach, kayaking down a river, hiking on a trail, driving on an open road with the windows down when it’s beautiful outside, sitting in a comfy chair reading a book, and the list goes on. The trick is that all of these places have to have one thing in common to be my favorite. They absolutely MUST include my husband, Greg, and our precious pup, Tucker!

A favorite verse is “The Lord is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love.”  (Psalm 145:8)  I have a very international background, having grown up as the son of medical missionaries in the eastern jungle of Peru.  At Wheaton College I majored in violin performance.  After a period working for the U.S. government in D.C. and the United Nations in Austria, I earned my doctorate in musicology at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York.  I also serve full time as a music history professor at the UNC School of the Arts.  As a musician, I love conducting, composing, and playing the violin in everything from Bach to bluegrass.  I also love art, history,   theology, languages, gardening, travel, staying fit, and spending time with my wife Jane (an artist and writer) and our five children.  Favorite places: on the podium leading   musicians and congregation in worship; in my garden; and at the beach in Wilmington!

My family is from Ghana, I was born in Toronto, ON in Canada, and spent most of my childhood in Baltimore, MD. Favorite Scripture: Romans 8:38-39 was really important for me in my development as a Christian in learning to actually believe that there is nothing I could do that make God love me any more or less than he already does. My favorite place to be is with my closest friends at coffee shop or sharing a meal in my home.

I mostly grew up in Holly Springs, NC. It has grown exponentially in the last 15 years and is now listed as one of the best towns to raise a family, as well as one of the safest towns. This is my third year working with IVCF at Salem College. Right now, an important passage for me is in James 4:13-17, reminding me to always live in the present. I love to be with friends and family, wherever that is.
